Velvet Teddy has an acclaimed reputation as the lip product behind Kylie Jenner's infamous pout and consequently was a sell out. Bur fast forward a few months and we all now know that isn't necessarily the truth. But nevertheless, this matte shade from MAC is worthy of its cult status - could it possibly be the best nineties nude? Velvet Teddy is described as 'deep-tone beige' with a matte finish. But applied directly onto my lips it's more of a muted medium-dark beige with a pink undertone. It can appear very dark on my skin tone. Admittedly something I'm not used to and something my Mum voiced she wasn't a fan of. However, the shade is wearing on me, applied lightly onto the lips, or paired with a swipe of MAC's Brave lipstick its pretty much perfection. It's creamy in texture, long lasting and neither drying nor hydrating. I'm yet to pair the shade with my MAC Soar lip liner, but as soon as I do, I'll be sure to give you the deets.

I love Velvet Teddy. It's easily one of my favourite lipsticks by far and is the ultimate nude shade. I love the fact it's so versatile; over Soar lip liner from Mac it transforms into a chic 90's lip, and on it's own it's still the perfect nude. However, I recently realised whilst cleaning out my make-up that I have an awful lot of velvet teddy sisters and cousins lying about. Some I hardly wear, some I wear all the time. Here's to sharing some of my collection…
- The NYX Butter Lipstick is a very moisturising lipstick. The NYX website claims it to be ‘satin' but I do feel like it has more of a sheen/glossy finish. I tend not to wear a more glossy lip very often but when I do feel like having a more natural look, this is something I just grab and go with. It's a ‘I don't have to worry about re-applying this on the bus' type shade.
- The Colourpop Liquid Lipstick in ‘Trap' isn't the most comparable shade to Velvet Teddy but it's a great deep and dark nude. Almost like Soar lipliner and Velvet Teddy together, with a hint of purple about it. It's also a dupe for the long awaited and ever sold out Kylie Lip Kit! It is also ten times more matte than Mac's matte shades, which some people love. I'm personally not a fan of the Colourpop liquid lipsticks, as the formula is incredibly drying, but some people LOVE them, so my only advice would be to try it yourself and see how you feel!
- I absolutely love Colourpop's Lippie Stix, the shade Brink is quite a red toned pink and looks amazing when it's on. Brink is supposedly a matte shade but it leans more toward satin in my opinion. It lasts such a long time as well! It's comparable to the quality of Mac lipsticks for sure, if not better.
- TheNYX Soft Matte Lip Creams aren't my favourite lip product as they do crack a little on my lips throughout the day, but for £5.50, you can't complain. This colour is one of my favourite shades though, and similarly with the Colurpop liquid lipsticks it's a very personal choice as to whether or not you like the formula. Personally, I do.
- The most comparable shade to Velvet Teddy is Topshop Lip Liner in Ceramic. I really love some of the Topshop make-up and their lip liners are honestly just as long lasting as Mac and I have re-purchased Ceramic several times. I would be so annoyed if ever they discontinued it! If Velvet Teddy is sold out, head down to Topshop.
